Website as a Service

Website as a Service is a subscription model where design, development, hosting, maintenance and updates come together in one ongoing arrangement. I describe how it works so you can decide if it suits you.

The problem, and what I do about it

  1. You want a professional website but prefer an ongoing arrangement over one large project cost.

I bring design, build and ongoing care together in a single subscription arrangement, with a defined scope instead of open-ended promises.

  2. You are tired of coordinating a designer, a host and someone to fix things, and want one person responsible.

I act as the one point of contact for hosting, maintenance and updates, so you do not need to coordinate several suppliers.

  3. You are unsure what an ongoing website arrangement would include and what it would not.

I set out in writing what the subscription covers, what sits outside it and how changes to scope are handled.

What you get out of it

A website that is built and looked after as one arrangement, with a written scope so you know what you are paying for.

Who it’s for

  • You are starting a business or a new site and prefer to spread the cost over time.
  • You want your website looked after by one person, without taking on hosting and updates yourself.
  • You have a site that needs a redesign and ongoing care, and want both handled together.
  • You want a clear, written scope before committing, not an open-ended arrangement.

If you only need a site built, website design and development is the straightforward route. If you already have a site and want it looked after, WordPress maintenance or managed hosting is the closer fit. A subscription is never required to work with me.

What’s included

  • Design and build

A new website, or a redesign of an existing one, delivered as part of the arrangement.

  • Hosting

Hosting arranged as part of the subscription, with terms confirmed in writing for your plan.

  • Maintenance and updates

Regular updates and checks to keep the site working, within the scope we agree.

  • Ongoing support

Help with changes and questions, with the boundaries of the support written down.

  • Clear scope

A written statement of what is included, what is extra and how requests are handled.

How it works

  1. Discuss your needs

We talk about the site, who maintains it and whether a subscription or a one-off project suits you better.

  2. Agree the arrangement

I set out the scope, responsibilities and terms in writing before any work starts.

  3. Build and launch

I design and build the site, or redesign the existing one, and launch it.

  4. Ongoing care

I look after hosting, maintenance and agreed updates, and we review the arrangement as your needs change.

Questions people ask

Draft answers, to confirm

What is website as a service?

It is a subscription model where the website, hosting, maintenance and support come as one ongoing arrangement. The details vary between providers, so the written scope matters more than the label.

Is a website subscription better than a one-off project?

It depends on how you prefer to pay and who should look after the site. A subscription suits people who want one arrangement, while a one-off project suits those who want full control from the start.

Who owns my website if I subscribe?

Ownership of the domain, content, design and code must be agreed in writing before you start. Ask any provider this question before signing, including me.

Can I leave a website subscription?

Exit terms should be written down before you begin, covering what you take with you and how handover works. Read them carefully before agreeing to any arrangement.
